The Ridgefield Playhouse will present the ballet "Le Corsaire" on the big screen in the Bolshoi Ballet Encore in HD on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. The Bolshoi Ballet dates back to 1776 in Russia.
Inspired by Lord Byron’s epic poem and reworked by Alexei Ratmansky from Petipa’s exotic 19th-century classic, the ballet is set at a bustling Turkish market. The pirate Conrad falls in love at first sight with beautiful Medora, the ward of the slave merchant Lankedem’s Bazaar. Conrad kidnaps Medora when Lankedem decides to sell her to the Pasha.
For the eighth consecutive year, the 2017-18 Bolshoi Ballet in HD season presents classic ballets restaged by today’s celebrated choreographers. In addition to "Le Corsaire," the series will feature "The Lady of the Camellias" on Feb. 4, "Romeo and Juliet" on Feb. 18, "Giselle" on Feb. 18, "The Flames of Paris" on May 26, and "Coppélia" on June 10.
The Ridgefield Playhouse offers free tickets to students ages 18 and under as a way for parents to introduce their children to the arts. Free tickets are also available for Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD screenings of The Met Opera and National Theatre of London.
