There are over 65 big kids working with little kids at Newtown's Cyrenius H. Booth Library this summer. The children read their books, talk, and play with the volunteers and earn some pretty fancy prizes, like a DVD or a pizza slice from My Place. The more books they read, the bigger the prizes.
The volunteers are in grades 7-12, and they enjoy their work. Eighth grader Sammy Kapur likes to see which books the kids choose, while Adam Liscinsky and all the teens like watching the little ones get their prizes.
Kudos to Librarian Candice Woods for organizing this wonderful program. It's one more example of neighbors helping neighbors, because that's the Newtown way!
