If you enjoy thriller and suspense novels and/or enjoy supporting local writers and libraries, stop by Bethel Library on Monday Aug. 5. Psychiatrist and Connecticut writer Mark Rubinstein will speak about his two thriller novels, “Mad Dog House”and “Love Gone Mad,” from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Books will be available for purchase and singing, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Library.
Rubinstein’s website explains that he came by his love of reading through his love of sports: Dreaming of playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Brooklyn native devoured sports fiction, which led to a “an enduring love for all kinds of novels.”
After majoring in business administration in college, Rubinstein served as a field medic in the army. Following his discharge, he earned a medical degree, with a specialization in psychiatry, “discovering in that specialty the same thing he realized in reading fiction: every patient has a compelling story to tell.” Rubinstein is also the co-author of five medical self-help books.
Both of his novels are thrillers with a medical bent. His first novel, “Mad Dog House,” follows a surgeon and an accountant who become silent partners in a steakhouse and who are “swept up in a criminal maelstrom that threatens their families’ lives.” The novel was a finalist for the 2012 ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award. In “Love Gone Mad,” a stalker targets a heart surgeon and a RN who meet at the hospital where they both work and end up having to fight for their lives.
